Salt & Saddle
Ventura, CA
Somewhere between the beach and the Ojai hills, there is a house where the days stretch out.
It was our very first rental, designed for guests from day one, close to Santa Barbara, the first place I called home when I moved to the United States. The house was plain, but the pool won us over, and on a small budget, creativity did the heavy lifting.
We painted the pinkish wood kitchen cabinets garden green and gave them leather pulls. The dining table got a painted base and velvet-wrapped legs. Even the bathroom got a velvet drape, which my partner doubted at first; now friends and guests want one at home. Art, artifacts, books and cozy textures layer every room, and fresh landscaping made a simple farmhouse worth returning to.
Come for the sun, stay for the stillness. Barefoot is encouraged.
